Abstract

The paper reveals common and differential parameters in the structure of the associative fields of DROUG and FRIEND relying on the findings of the comparative analysis. The procedure of word association tests involved 500 native speakers of Russian and 500 native speakers of British English. The types of reactions that we have identified reflect the nature of speech action predication. The study revealed 60% of similar responses. Conceptual responses are more typical for British respondents (59% vs 53%), and the reactions-images are more frequent among Russian subjects (8% vs 14%). Different degree of operationality of cue-target pairs demonstrates the national and cultural specifics of the analyzed speech actions.
